Salisbury City 1 York City 1:  For the second successive Saturday,  Salisbury manager Nick Holmes saw his side take the lead but end up sharing a 1-1 draw.

Salisbury fielded new signings Charles Ademeno, on loan from Southend United, and Daniel Webb, who spent last season with AFC Wimbledon before having a short spell this term with Havant and Waterlooville.

After the Blue Square Premier game,  Holmes said: “It was frustrating again to have given up the three points in the second half.

“ I thought we took the game to them and created the better chances.  Unfortunately, we didn’t take one of those to go 2-0 up.”

He added: “We took the game to them after going ahead and tried to build on our lead.  I thought we passed the ball well and created some good passages of play, and had a couple of good chances in the second half that we should have done much better with.”

For their goal they had two players in an offside position but Richard Brodie, who scored, may have come back and been onside.  There are too many grey areas within the offside rule which make it difficult for the officials, and managers will not be happy until it is more black and white.”

Danny Parslow’s 29th-minute back-header clattered the Salisbury crossbar and was the nearest either side had come to scoring.

But the Whites took the lead 10 minutes later when the ball was played back by a York defender to keeper Michael Ingram, who sliced his clearance towards his own goal.   Charlie Griffin was on hand to net easily.

The lead could have been doubled on 44 minutes when Robbie Sinclair’s run down the right channel saw him fire a vicious left-foot effort narrowly wide of a post.

York  came out with renewed vigour in the second period but  Danny McBreen’s 49th-minute effort hardly troubed Salisbury keeper James Bittner.

Four minutes later, Parslow put a close-range header wide of the mark.

Salisbury battled  to keep their visitors at bay.  In the 73rd minute  McBreen put a good chance over the top from 10 yards. The same player  pulled his shot wide from 12 yards three minutes later when he had time and space to do better.

Salisbury responded on 75 minutes when Sean Clohessy’s superb cross was met by Ademeno, who put the ball just over the York crossbar.

Seven minutes later, new boy Webb saw his attempted lob saved by Ingram.

York  scored  the equaliser within seconds of Ingram’s save when Richard  Brodie found himself in the clear and walked the ball round Bittner  as Salisbury players appealed to the assistant referee for offside.
