Saints' hat-trick trio have a day to remember against battling Hutton
Three players hit hat-tricks as St Nicholas Under-10s made it seven wins from seven games with an 11-3 thumping of improving Hutton Juniors.
Caitlyn Preston, Katie Hudson and Amber Channelle scored three goals each for Saints, who led 5-0 at half-time.
Hutton, who started a player short, defended bravely to try to keep the dangerous Saints forwards at bay and, to their credit, they made the best of their own breaks, with goals from Desni Darcy (2) and Pheobe Paynton.
Player-of-the-match Scarlett Smith had an excellent game in defence for Saints.
Katie Ireland was the goal hero as Longwell Green A Under-13s exacted swift revenge on a Winscombe side who had beaten them 2-0 a week earlier.
Longwell almost snatched an early lead through Lauren Griffin, while at the other end Ellie Evans was forced into making several fine saves.
Longwell's back four of Rebecca Hinder, Hetty Graham, Kaya Bullock and Amy Yapp defended well throughout, making numerous tackles, while the solitary goal came when Kayleigh Graham's shot was saved and Ireland hammered the rebound into the net.
Kara Pring, Rebecca Jones and Olivia Hallett toiled hard in midfield for Longwell, while Estelle Randall always looked like increasing their lead with her threatening raids.
Backwell Athletic Under-13s weathered a strong comeback from visitors Gloucester City to come out on top in a seven-goal thriller.
Athletic took the lead when Jen Atherton made a surging run into the area before unleashing a powerful shot that deflected into the net off an unfortunate Gloucester defender.
Backwell's second goal arrived midway through the second half when Amy Hynam was on the spot to convert Atherton's superb right-wing cross.
The game then exploded into life as Kathryn Howells made an athletic save from a Gloucester penalty and then Hynam raced on to a through ball to slot home her second and open a three-goal lead. At that stage, Backwell looked likely to cruise to victory, but a resurgent Gloucester side hit back to score twice in the space of a few minutes.
Backwell's two-goal advantage was restored when Shannon Holloway kept a cool head to finish calmly after she had broken through the defence following great work by Sarah Wilson.
There was still time for Gloucester to score again and ensure a tense finish, but Athletic held on to register a third successive victory.
Bottom side Ashton Girls Under-11s gave it their all before falling to a 2-0 defeat against St Nicholas.
Ashton held the table-toppers well for the opening 25 minutes until Saints broke the deadlock.
Goalkeeper Mariead Hayward kept Ashton in the game with some fantastic saves and good kicking, backed up by a sterling defensive performance from the returning Emily Derrick and tireless efforts from Teagan Ridgey and Megan Palmer on the flanks.
Captain Gabby Hitching demonstrated her leadership qualities with her commitment to the cause, while
substitutes Maisie Britton and player-of-the-game Elli Billittary made a good impact, but their hopes of getting something from the match ended when Saints scored a second goal.
Ashton kept going and almost pulled one back when Molly Carter forced a fine save from the Saints keeper.
In Under-11 Division B, Catriona Coates scored a hat-trick as Backwell Athletic beat Bristol Central 10-2 – their eighth straight win – to retain their 100 per cent winning start to the season.
Imogen Fisher (2), Lauren Malone (2), Ellie Bray, Carys Hector and Chloe Taylor were also on target, while keeper Sarah Page and defenders Lizzie Johnstone and Hannah Simms were excellent.
