Bristol Airport will escape planned cuts by Ryanair to routes across Europe, the airline has said.

The budget airline, which launched a new route to Malaga from Lulsgate yesterday, will next week announce reductions to routes from UK airports in the face of the recession.

But none of the cuts will affect Bristol, which now has 33 Ryanair routes following the Malaga news, with flights starting on October 26.

Last month, Ryanair announced it will fly to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife from the last week of October. Twice-weekly flights to each destination will run until March 2010.

In July, the no-frills airline admitted it is reducing the number of flights at Stansted by 30 per cent between October 2009 and March 2010.

This amounts to a 40 per cent reduction as Ryanair will cut the number of aircraft at Stansted from 40 this summer to 24 in winter 2009-10.

It is thought the latest round of cuts will affect Luton and East Midlands airports.

“Point taken, but much can be said about any business with a strong brand.

Aardman, Bristol City and Rovers, Banksy etc are all making a lot of money as well as being a brand that people respect.

Love them or hate them, Ryanair provide Bristol people with local jobs and allow access to a variety of routes in/out of the city for the locals.”

“Well, they are hardly doing it for the benefit of Bristol are they?

Headline should read, Bristol Airport still profitable for private company, so they are not reducing flights as that would be a stupid idea....

There you go, rocket science it isnt...”
