Ryan Green may be the only senior Bristol Rovers outfield player without a Gas goal to his name – but he insists he is saving his maiden strike for a really big game.

With Aaron Lescott scoring twice in last Saturday's 5-0 win at Walsall, the right-back is now hunting a goal of his own.

Green's last effort was in his final game for previous club Hereford – a superb curling shot that won the 2006 Conference play-off final in extra-time and got the Bulls promoted back to the Football League.

After 82 appearances for Rovers, Green must be due a goal. "People are saying that to me," said the 28-year-old. "I don't think I get forward as much as Aaron any more.

"The last one was for Hereford in the final. I save them for the big games!

"I am the only senior pro without a goal so it would be nice to get off the mark.

"But I won't be fighting Rickie Lambert for a penalty. The main thing is getting points on the board."

Rovers will be hoping Green gets the chance to play in another major play-off final this season as they look to close in on the League One play-offs.

But Green was rated as 50-50 for today's home game with Peterborough after suffering a knock to his knee in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Crewe Alexandra. However, the former Wales international insists it will not be a long-term problem.

"I got a knock during the game and it wasn't too bad but the following morning I really felt it bad so I am 50-50," he said. "It will be nothing long-term – maybe a week max.

"The play-offs will take a hell of a run but first of all we need to get in the top half and get as many points on the board and see what happens."

Green's injury will be in the thoughts of first-team coach Paul Trollope and director of football Lennie Lawrence ahead of Thursday's deadline for loan signings.

"We are assessing it over the weekend," said Trollope. "It depends on Ryan and how he is. (Central defender) Craig Hinton has got ongoing patella tendonitis that we have to monitor. I am not ruling anything out because we need to assess those injuries."
