Bristol Rovers are expected to confirm the capture of Dominic Blizzard in the next few days.

The Stockport County midfielder is understood to have already agreed the terms of a three-year deal with the Pirates.

But the club are now waiting for the 25-year-old to undergo a medical before they complete the formalities of his transfer.

He will become Rovers' second signing of the summer after they landed MK Dons defender Carl Regan on a two-year deal last month.

Coach Paul Trollope would not confirm Blizzard's imminent arrival, although he is optimistic the club can bolster their ranks this week.

"I'm not going to talk about individuals. Carl has signed and we are currently talking to one or two others. We will make an announcement when there is definite news," said Trollope.

"Negotiations are ongoing with one or two individuals and maybe we will have some good news in the next few days.

"Things are not easy. Sometimes if you are after players who are going to help get you where you want to be – which is near the top of League One – then they are not easy to get because they have quality, which means other people are after them as well.

"Things take time and patience is needed. It's frustrating because I want to tie things up as soon as I can – and so do the supporters. But hopefully there will be things happening this week."

A string of other clubs – including Blackpool, Scunthorpe, Plymouth, MK Dons and Huddersfield – had been linked with interest in Blizzard, who made 58 league appearances for the Hatters during his two-year stint at Edgeley Park.

It is not known whether Rovers will be targeting further arrivals before the start of the season, although they are still looking to offload players with Andy Williams, Lewis Haldane and Sean Rigg all on the transfer list.

"We have three players on the transfer list and we are still looking to shape the squad," said Trollope.

"We are looking to move one or two players on, although their attitude has been fantastic since we returned to training last week.

"It's not a case of people having to leave before we sign anyone else.

"We are trying to trim the numbers but get a first-team squad which is rich in quality to get where we want to go."

It is looking more and more likely that last season's 29-goal top scorer Rickie Lambert will again spearhead the Pirates' attack next season, despite summer speculation linking him with interest from a clutch of other clubs.

"There have been a lot of stories with regard to Rickie, but it's business as usual," said Trollope.

"We have had no approaches or phone calls to myself, Lennie Lawrence or the chairman – so he is our player and he will be next season.

"Pre-season isn't his favourite time of the year, but he has come back in decent shape.

"That was one of the reasons for his success last season because he really looked after himself, both on the training pitch and at home.

"He lost some weight, got himself in good shape and I think his performances on the pitch reflected that.

"We are looking for the same again from him. That's difficult because of the number of goals he scored for us last season, but I don't see any reason why he can't do it.

"Given his age, he is coming into his prime now. He knows the set up and the players around him and those understandings are crucial."
