A CLUB for youngsters in Lawrence Weston has been given a £30,000 makeover.

Money raised by the Rotary Club of Clifton has provided the refurbishment, alongside a new five-a-side football pitch.

The new facilities at the Avon Club for Young People, based in Long Cross, were officially opened last night.

High Sheriff of Bristol Richard Hodder- Williams was on hand, along with Bristol Rovers and Bristol City players.

They had a kickabout with the boys who will use the new pitch, 100 of whom were at the club last night. There was also a prize-giving ceremony with trophies and awards given to the youngsters.

Directors from Connaught Builders, who provided the refurbishment free of charge, were also present at the event.

Avon Club for Young People has gone from strength to strength recently under the guidance of youth leader Lee Williams, whose contribution has been recognised at national level by the Rotary Club.
