This week's Johnson Paint Trophy tie against Hereford United is being keenly anticipated by Bristol Rovers captain, Stuart Campbell.

Three years ago with Rovers a mid-table Division Two team, they were the giant-killers whose exploits saw them go all the way to a Millennium Stadium final and ultimately defeat against Doncaster Rovers.

This week sees Rovers return to JPT action but as a side in the top half of League One, they will be the ones who some of the Division Two sides will be gunning for.

Campbell, who led the side for most of Rovers run the JPT - including leading the team out against rivals City in the semi-final leg and again at the Millennium Stadium, believes that the cup can help to breed even more confidence in the side.

Unlike some teams, Campbell and Rovers will be taking the JPT seriously.

He said: "Three years ago the JPT run really did galvanise our whole season and catapulted us on a run.

"That run not only saw us go to the final at the Millennium Stadium but also helped our league form which ended up with the Wembley play-off final appearance and promotion.

"We know the rewards that are there in this competition. Some teams see the JPT as a hindrance but we view it differently.

"We will approach it positively and give it our best shot as it offers a realistic chance of a Wembley final.

"There are no championship or Premiership sides in this competition so it really does offer teams like us a realistic opportunity of enjoying a day out at Wembley and we know only too well what that means.

"It also means so much to the supporters and we saw the last time we played in the final just how many of them turned out on the day.

"Even though the result didn't go our way on the day, so many people remember that day out in Cardiff and are proud of what we did there.

"For those of us who played that day we will never forget it and those who have joined us since are always being reminded just how good it was."

Trollope said: "We have good memories and the Johnson Paint Trophy has served us well three years ago.

We had a disappointing exit at Bournemouth last year and we want to go as far as we can in the competition.

"It is important to win games and breed confidence in the group.

"We will be fully focussed on winning that game and look forward to progressing through to the next round.

"When we went through to the final three years ago we were a mid-table Division Two side and now we look on ourselves as a top half Division One side and that means you are one of the favourites to progress quite far in the competition.

"We will try to do that. We know it builds confidence in the side if you can win games and we know it brings in extra revenue for the club which is always handy.

" It is very much boot on the other foot. There are some big clubs in our division now with the likes of Leeds, Southampton, Charlton and Norwich.

"But in the initial rounds in the south cluster we would consider ourselves a strong outfit."
