THE wonderful world of Roald Dahl has taken over a Bristol primary school this week.

Fonthill Primary School in Southmead has organised five days of activities based on the popular children's author's work.

One of the highlights was a visit from the television and stage actor Anthony Pedley yesterday.

He presented a one-man show, telling children about Roald Dahl and reading excerpts from his work.

School administrator Trish Arnal said: "It was absolutely brilliant. The kids loved it."

Mr Pedley also opened the school's new library.

Each class has chosen a Dahl book to study and is involved in curriculum-related learning based on the title.

Competitions are being held as well as events such as a "golden tickets" hunt, after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a sale of Mrs Twit's eyeball cakes in honour of The Twits.

The aim of the week is to encourage children to read.

"All the children are really enjoying it. It is nice to see them discussing the books and the storylines," said Ms Arnal.
