Match organiser Tony Rixon turned an otherwise ordinary peg into a late winner in the Avon Angling Midweek Open match, fished on Match Lake at Landsend Fisheries.

He fed and fished a variety of baits all around peg 15, but coming into the last two hours all he had in his keepnets were three small carp and a few other bits.

With his hopes of winning fading fast, and time running out, he switched to fishing sweetcorn into the island's margins.

The carp suddenly came on to feed and he finished the match with a 12-carp catch, totalling 68-4-0.

Results, overall: 1, Tony Rixon (Mosella Avon Angling) 68-4-0, peg 15; 2, Alan Oram (Dynamite Baits) 64-10-0, peg 11; 3, Mike Duckett (Team Landsend) 45-7-0, peg 11; 4, Gary Wall (Team Landsend) 42-4-0; 5, Nick Duckett (Team Landsend) 40-1-0; 6, Chris Davies 35-10-0. Silverfish: 1, Martin Alexander (Avon Angling) 16-15-0, peg 13.
