Rixon close to record at West Hay
MATCH organiser Tony Rixon weighed in just 5lb short of the existing match record in the Avon Angling Midweek Open fished at Avalon Fishery, West Hay.
He poled a hair-rigged 8mm pellet shallow at 14 metres off peg seven and caught 31 carp totalling 184-4-0.
Local rod Jim Bain beat Bristol's Alan Oram to second place by the weight of an average-sized Avalon Fishery carp.
Bain used the same tactics as the winner at peg five to tempt 20 carp weighing 97-11-0, while Oram poled paste at five metres off peg 21 for 94-9-0.
Phil Harding topped the silverfish category at peg 19, where paste poled both central and lakeside tempted a 20-3-0 mixed bag.

A BRIGHT sunny day and an out of condition River Avon proved a hard nut to crack for the 10 contestants of the Pucklechurch AS match fished at Whaddon.
Top of a disappointing set of weights was Pete Humphris, who fished feeder and worm tactics at peg 27 and included a 6lb bream in a 6-2-0 winning catch.

THE top two competitors both hit the magical 100lb mark in the Kings Head Elite match fished at the Bridgwater Sedges.
The top weight fell to pole wizard Shaun Townsend. The Sensas Bathampton AA team member alternated between an 8mm banded pellet and caster at peg three to tempt 114-10-0 of carp to almost 8-0-0.
The second best weight was taken by Bob Sheppard who poled hard pellet both shallow and at full depth off peg 13 for a similar catch weighing 101-6-0.

LANDLORD Martin Rayet clinched a close victory in round four of the Queens Head Tuesday Evening Series fished at Boyd Valley Lake, Bitton.
The PI Thatchers rod poled a 6mm banded pellet at both 13 metres centre and into the lakeside margins of peg two for a 48-5-0 catch of skimmers, roach and carp to almost 8lb.
Second was Louis Townsend, who fished the same as the winner at neighbouring peg three for an almost identical 48-0-0.

A FOURTH place performance in round three was enough to keep Bob Feltham ahead on weight in the Carps AC Thursday League fished at Shangri-La Carp Lake, near Bath.
The top man on the day was Bob 'The Bread' Price, who poled double sweetcorn to full depth at eight metres off peg five and included a 5-12-0 grass carp in his 23-7-0 catch.
Price is Feltham's closest rival in the league standings.
