Risk of action over change to 999 rotas
AMBULANCE workers could take industrial action in a dispute over new rotas that would see more crews working at weekends.
Great Western Ambulance Service says it needs to change the existing shift system to better handle increased numbers of 999 calls and says frontline staff could also benefit by not having to attend emergencies near the end of shifts
But union Unison says the "sweeping" changes could affect the safety and welfare of staff dealing with accident and emergency calls.
Both sides say they are trying to resolve their differences but the union is polling staff to find out the strength of support for action if no agreement is reached.
