Staff at a company in Bristol are putting on their walking boots to take on the Mendips in aid of charity.

The 20 staff members from the project management firm Provelio, in Lewins Mead, are taking part in the company's annual charity event established to raise money for a cause related to the company, or one which affects an employee.

Funds are raised through a physically challenging event, which in turn helps promote staff fitness and well-being.

Over the last three years, the PACE team has successfully raised more than £19,500 and in 2008 they completed the 25-mile circuit of the Yorkshire Peaks.

This included the assent of the three highest peaks in Yorkshire, Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough within the pre-set 12 hour timescale.

For the 2009 challenge, on June 19, the team will hike across the Mendips to raise £5,000 to for Parkinson's Disease Society, which funds vital research into a cure for Parkinson's disease.

Sue Nash, one of the team members, said: "This month 20 of our intrepid team will take up the challenge and hike 30 miles across the Mendips from Uphill Cliff in Weston-super-Mare to Wells.

"In total we expect the team to clock up a staggering 660 miles of hiking over the two day challenge.

"Our route includes a steep ascent up Crook Peak to a height of 175m (574ft) so we hope that we can all rise to the challenge and make it to the finish in Wells on Saturday, June 20."

Organiser Keith Beaumont, 48, said the whole company is encouraged to get involved each year. He said: "This is our fifth year of fundraising and we do a different challenge every year.

"Each event involves walking as this is something that everyone can take part in and we try to involve the whole company.

"There are 27 employees and this year we have 20 people taking part."
