Revived Bristol Bulldogs speedway club take part in four-team tournament
Bristol Bulldogs speedway team are hoping tomorrow's meeting at Swindon will help their bid to join the Conference League next season.
The Bulldogs have not raced competitively since 1978 but have taken part in two friendly meetings this year.
Talks are ongoing with Swindon and Newport for the team to groundshare with one of the stadia which would allow them to enter the third tier of British speedway.
Almost 30 years to the day that the team last raced at Eastville, the Bulldogs have been invited to take on Swindon, Oxford and Leicester in a Four-team tournament tomorrow (6pm).
The team for the trip includes a rider with family connections to the club.
Jordan Tyrer, son of former Bulldog Paul Tyrer, will ride at number five for the first time.
Cornishman Mark Simmons, who became a fans favourite when he top-scored for the Bulldogs at Weymouth in June, will also feature along with Russian Seman Vlasov and young rider Gareth Isherwood.
The team will again be managed by former Somerset Rebel Glen Cunningham from Downend.
The Bristol Speedway Supporters club are running coaches to the event, and further details can be obtained from Club Secretary Brian Mead on 07765 442443 or at www.bbssc.co.nr
There is now an on-line petition asking the city council to work with the club.

“I support all efforts to bring Speedway back to Bristol, a traditional Speedway City.
The Bristol City Council should right the wrong that was done in 1978, when it promised to find a site for Speedway, then reneged on their promise. Now is the time to right that wrong, and bring a wholesome sport back to the City.”
