CHANGE OF USE FOR MERLIN HOUSE
On the 14th June 2012 Merlin Housing Association is holding a 'closed' board meeting to decide on the future of Newleaze House
At this meeting, Merlin the landlords, are to recommend a change to
the use of Newleaze House so as to provide housing for residents such as
'younger people'
Should this recommendation be approved then residents will need to be
rehoused and at this time there are no assurances residents will be
offered a new home in Filton
Filton Town Councilors plan to lobby the meeting of the Merlin Board
that is scheduled to meet at 6:30 on the 14th June at: Merlin Housing
Building 1. Riverside Court. Chipping Sodbury. BS37 6JX
Please show your support for our Filton Residents who don't wish to
be moved from their homes and local residents who don't want this change
of use by joining us on our lobby of the meeting.
We will assemble outside the meeting venue from 6:00pm.
For further information please contact your local Councillor
Or Filton Town Council by Phone on 01454 866698 or E-mail 'office@filtontowncouncil.gov.uk'
Thank you for your support
Labours spokesperson for transport, planning and strategic environment, Roger Hutchinson, was asked to sign an objection letter from the council to Merlin, however declined saying he would have to full understand the letter before doing so.
It was unclear whether the South Gloucestershire Labour councillors for Filton, Ian Scott, Adam Monk and Roger Hutchinson, would attend the lobbying event.

“The only letter Labour councillor Hutchinson should be asked to sign is his resignation one.
There has been no action on this threat to close the home.
In addition councillor Hutchinson now chooses to respond to elderly residents questions describing the subjects as "boring" at meetings. Extremely disrespectful.
It wasn't "boring" to invest considerable time in trying to stop Filton council charging for his boules and cycle speedway teams.
Labour need to sweep clean in Filton and show they are for the people not against the people.”

“I wonder if insider will be at the meeting helping residents object?
It is concerning that we have Labour councillors now rallying residents to do their job.The residents of Newleaze of elderly and many infirm. To expect them to get to Chipping Sodbury to stand in probably the cold and rain, is wrong.
What we should have been informaed, is that our 3 paid Filton councillors (Ian Scott, Roger Hutchinson and Adam Monks all labour) will be there on our behalf to lobby the Merlin board directly. It should be "join us in our fight to save it", but thats not the message is it.
I do hope we can expect all three of our Filton Sglos councillors who draw an annual councillor allowance, to have diarised this meeting and stand outside shoulder to shoulder with the people effected.
Or will they be conspicuous by their absence as usual?”

“Oh look. More political wrangling. Yawn.
Please, lets get some independents in and get rid of all this political, childish bickering.
It really is desperate.”

“So again residents asked to step in and campaign on a local issue by a Labour councillor? Why not the three of them actually work harder for Filton? Holding councillors surgeries together proves they mingle into one.
Elderly people who are are worried expected to get to the meeting?
You read the councillor reports of the likes of Hutchinson and Monk and they tell you nothing of what they have actually been doing for Filton issues.Just meetings attended, which tells us nothing.
Councillor Scott took credit for "saving" Filton clinic, but was not involved until residents took action and contacted the EP.
They are certainly more focussed on upping their the district council image than the local town.Mixing with the movers and shakers.
Filton Town Conservative councillors efforts, are putting Labour to shame on all fronts at the moment, boring for some councillors to hear, but true!”

“@eddyshoesstring,
No lets get THIS right!...it was Filton council that asked Hutchinson to put his name to a letter, which he refused to do. He was nowhere when filton clinic was closing and he'll be nowhere to be seen on this as well.
Its hardly signing a blank cheque, its simply putting his name to the objection to close newleaze elderly peoples home, but he wont do it because anything for the people he's against. Remember park road gating which he fought residents on? Third avenue gating he fought residents on? The list is endless.
It was not Monk and Scott who cost the money, it was Hutchinson. Found guilty of breaching the code of conduct twice! Saying he didn't call cllr Monk a F******* Tory C*** at a council meeting, which he did and documents from other parties who heard it are out there!! He forgot to declare his interest, he knows the rules and he broke them.
His conduct committee buddies took no action. This committee should have been made up of Filton residents!!
All Hutchinson had to do was resign and save Filton taxpayers £27,000, but no he held out and now is secretary of a filton labour branch who organises pub crawls and talks about residents behind their backs, he hasn't got the guts to say anything to their face, because he takes his councillor allowance without any moral fibre.
He should go and the labour party should throw him out.”

“Ok let's get this right Cllr Hutchinson is asked by Cllr Ian Scott to put his name to a letter that he had not even seen !!
I would like Cllr Scott to sign a blank cheque made out to me but I doubt if he would do it would he ?
Is Roger Hutchinson really likely to trust Monk or Scott ever again after the way they behaved and lets not forget they cost the public purse a great deal of money.
Dan Gleables- As for the likelyhood of Filtons labour Councillors actually turning out to support their local residents your more likely to see Doug Daniels, Bryan Freegaurd, and Rumpole support Filtons residents.”

“Oh local issues like this are far too BORING for councillor Hutchinson...but I suppose if he must...”

“Will labours Ian Scott be going to the Merlin meeting and waving his protest flag along with his labour branch members? Or will it be left to the residents of Filton yet again to fight for their community as they step back?
It will be interesting to see who from local labour actually goes, who arent too busy..Will councilor Hutchinson be standing side by side with councillor Scott and Hutchinson on this one?
It's becoming more and more common, that the south glos group seem more interested in upping their district council personal profiles than the local issues. Who's eyeing up the next MP candidate nomination???”
