A PAIR of fox cubs have been rescued from Avonmouth after two youngsters tried to sell them.

A member of the public contacted Secret World Animal Rescue after two boys, in their early teens, offered him the 12-week-old cubs.

The cubs, called Bill and Ted, are now being looked after by the wildlife centre, in Highbridge, and appear to be in good health although are very frightened.

When the boys were approached about the cubs they openly admitted that they knew they were fox cubs. They also told the man that they had already previously sold the other two cubs to other members of the public.

Staff are now concerned for the welfare of the two cubs who may have been purchased and the likelihood that the mother may have been killed in order to acquire these animals.

Charity founder Pauline Kidner said: "Someone may have unwittingly paid for a cub thinking it's a puppy and we would urge them to get in touch as soon as possible. People also need to know that it is illegal to sell wildlife."

The centre is already caring for over 13 fox cubs which have been rescued over the past few weeks and urge the public to seek advice before picking up any wildlife which may not necessarily be orphaned.

If you have any information about the whereabouts of the sold fox cubs please contact Secret World on 01278 783250, the centre will be also open from 10am – 4pm to visitors throughout the Easter Weekend.
