Renowned pianist to play with Bristol Concert Orchestra at St George's Bristol
Renowned pianist Ashely Wass ('an endlessly fascinating artist' [Classic FM]) returns to St George's Bristol on Saturday March 2nd to play Gershwin's Piano Concerto with Bristol Concert Orchestra.
This will be Ashley's second appearance with the orchestra, under conductor Stefan Hofkes, following his performance of Beethoven's 4th concerto in 2011.
Saturday's concert concentrates purely on music with an American connection - Bernstein's Candide Overture opens the concert with a lively flourish, before the jazz-infused Piano Concerto by Gershwin. Rounding off the concert, Dvorak's hugely popular New World Symphony - written in America, but not depicting that country, rather a fond musical depiction of his faraway Bohemian homeland, complete with the beautiful second movement known to generations as the music from the Hovis TV ad.
After the concert, there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
