Athletics quote of the week and performance of the week

Quote: "I won the Bristol half marathon in 1990 and got a travel voucher for £150 for a travel firm that specialised in running tours. I used this voucher towards my trip to Rotterdam the following April, where I ran 2:16. I paid my own entry for the event and there were no appearance fees or expenses as they have now." – Bristol runner Wayne Buxton reflecting on his victory, the first by a local in the event, 19 years ago and the rewards compared to the £1,000 top prize which was on offer last weekend.

Performance: Among the many fine performances at the Bristol half marathon was one by Karen Durkin, of Bitton Road Runners. She finished 1,287th from the 10,000-strong field and broke the club record in the Over-50s age group, previously held by Shan Aqular-Stone, with a time of 1hr 38mins 37secs.
