Olympic 10,000m runner Kate Reed is facing up to the prospect of having to undergo a second operation this year.

The 26-year-old Bristol & West AC international has only recently made her comeback after undergoing an operation on her right Achilles tendon to remove a bone spur.

However, she is now suffering from a similar problem in her left foot.

"It is not as bad as the right foot but the pain was bad enough to force me to drop out of the Great Yorkshire Run 10k on Sunday," said Reed.

"I had a cortisone injection in it on Monday and hopefully that will settle it down, while I have also been told that new orthotics might also help me."

Reed will resume light jogging again this weekend and will know within the next week whether the cortisone has cured the problem.

If not, then a further operation seems to be the only answer.

"The Swedish surgeon, who is one of the best in the world, is over in London again in three weeks time and if I have to have another operation then so be it," added Reed.

"It is so frustrating because I seem to have suffered one thing after another and it really knocks you back."
