Bristol Churches League: Woodlands Rangers announced themselves as Division One title contenders with a 6-1 demolition of former champions Thornbury Baptist.

Striker Dave Peregrine, a summer capture from VCF Santos, and fellow frontman Ieuan Pearse each scored twice. Andy Baynton and Mike Serjeant also netted for Simon Eakins' side, with Mark Bowers replying for the Baps.

Widcombe Wanderers still head the table with four wins out of four after beating Bristol University Christian Union 4-2.

Player-boss Chris Bentley Taylor led the way with a double, while Keith Mackrell, with his 10th goal of the season, and Robert Comba completed the scoring. Jonathan Stanley and Tom Thacker replied for the students, who lost for the first time this season.

VCF Santos collected their first points with a 1-0 win in Nailsea thanks to an early goal from Richard Lee-Wright, while Pip n Jay moved up to fourth spot after beating Christchurch Clifton 2-0, with Alistair Macfarlane scoring twice.

The Sanctuary are setting the pace in Division II, with striker Ricky Bush again in outstanding form in their 5-0 win against Israel. Bush netted a hat-trick to take his goal tally to seven in just two games for his new club. Matt Lecrass and Justin Watts completed the scoring.

Rock Crusaders are hot on their heels in second place and boast a 100 per cent record after beating C3 2-1. Prolific duo Paul Freeman and John Birtles both netted their fourth goals of the season to seal victory.

BS4 continue to be the surprise package in the division and are up to third after a 2-1 win at Gordano Valley Church Rovers. Jamie Burton and player-manager Ian Chappell were on the scoresheet.

Hayhill won for the first time this season as they hammered Bristol Pistols 5-1 thanks to Darren White (3) and Jon Bartley (2). And Hillfields Park Baptist put their bad start to the campaign behind them, Nathan Thompson netting a hat-trick in a dramatic 4-3 win over Widcombe Corinthians.
