THERE was an explosion of colour at Millennium Square when fund raisers promoted a new phenomenon to the UK – The Rainbow Run.

The fun event will be staged by Children's Hospice South West on the Downs, at 1pm on May 19.

At the launch event yesterday CHSW fund raisers and staff from Simply Health showered themselves with an explosion of brightly coloured powder paint.

The CHSW say the Rainbow Run will be the first 5km 'paint race' to take place in the UK.

Similar events have taken America and Australia by storm, attracting sell-out crowds of up to 30,000.

Runners taking part turn up wearing a white T-shirt and then run through different "colour stations" where they are showered with powder paints.

The organisers have produced a video to show people what they can expect to look like once they have finished the run.

Karen Edgington, head of fundraising at CHSW's Charlton Farm hospice, said: "The Rainbow Run is the perfect way to celebrate and support the fantastic work that CHSW does raising a smile for local life-limited children.

"CHSW's Charlton Farm hospice is a magical place, full of fun and laughter where precious memories are made – not what many might imagine a hospice to be.

"The Rainbow Run is all about having fun and trying something different. As Bristol is renowned for being a vibrant city we felt it was the perfect place to introduce this memorable event."
