Bristol community radio station BCfm, based in Lawrence Hill, has won a national award for a programme about pilgrims going to Lourdes.

BCfm 93.2, broadcast Face to Faith in the summer about people from Bristol travelling to the French shrine on a pilgrimage to mark the 150th anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

Tom Bigwood, presenter and producer, interviewed many taking part, including the pilot flying the pilgrims to France, the Bishop of Clifton – the Right Reverend Declan Lang – and the pilgrims.

The silver award for best speech/magazine radio programme was presented by the Christian Broadcasting Council at a ceremony in Manchester last Friday.

BCfm station manager, Phil Gibbons, said: "This national award for Face to Faith is great news for BCfm and our listeners.

"It confirms that, even in the year and a bit we've been on air, BCfm has produced top quality unique radio, bringing more voices and a greater choice to Bristolians.

"This honour from the Christian Broadcasting Council comes hot on the heels of BCfm's win at the 'voscurs' – a new award to celebrate the fantastic and innovative work done by the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Bristol.

"It's wonderful that the hard work of out 100-plus volunteers is being recognised in these ways."

BCfm's Face to Faith is broadcast at 3pm on Mondays, 11am on Tuesdays and 4pm on Sunday.

The station can be heard on 93.2fm in Bristol and enjoyed around the world at www.bcfm.org.uk.
