Children at Gay Elms Primary School in Hartcliffe have been learning the art of podcasting from the experts.

Podcasts are radio-style audio recordings which can be downloaded from the internet.

The 15 students took part in the workshop with Heart 96.3's breakfast show presenters Bush, Troy and Paulina after their school won a Radio in Schools podcasting contest.

The competition was launched in January to give Bristol schools the opportunity to meet the presenters and create their own podcasts, with the best bits due to be broadcast on Heart 96.3.

Bush, Troy and Paulina introduced them to podcasting, showed them how to use the Radio in Schools virtual studio website and offered tips and advice.

Radio in Schools is an independent, not-for-profit organisation offering a safe platform to allow schools, children and a new generation of listeners to get their voice heard.

On the Radio for Schools website children can create content through the Virtual Studio and share it on the web.

Annette Osborne, head teacher at Gay Elms Primary School, said: "Gay Elms is delighted to have won the podcasting workshop with Heart's Bush, Troy and Paulina.

"Effective communication skills are essential to the development of children's learning and to have Heart come and share their expertise with the children has really motivated and enthused them. We are all very excited."

Melissa Thom, director of Radio in Schools, said: "Podcasting is all about telling your own and finding out about other people's stories.

"Bush, Troy and Paulina are the perfect storytellers and were on hand with some great tips on how to produce simple podcasts using Radio in Schools. It's a really exciting opportunity to excite young learners with real-life models and experiences."

“The Post is turning into one long advertisement for the not-really-at-all-regional Heart radio station.”
