Five men shouted racist abuse and then assaulted an Asian man in Lockleaze.

The 49-year-old Asian man was punched in the back of the head and kicked in the back in the attack, but did not need hospital treatment for his injuries. Four men arrested in connection with the assault in Bridge Walk were released without charge.

PC Shaun Brean said: "This was a totally unprovoked racist attack which happened in broad daylight just off the busy Filton Road in Horfield. This is totally unacceptable behaviour."

The attack happened on Friday, October 24, but police have only today made an appeal for the public's help.

Anyone who was in the area who witnessed the incident or who has any other information which could help the police investigation should telephone Southmead police station on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
