THE challenge to dash to the top of Bristol's tallest building is back on.

The St Peter's Hospice Gert Rush was due to take place at Castlemead, in Lower Castle Street, at the end of last year but was postponed after a man was alleged to have thrown computers from the tenth storey of the building.

It has now been rearranged for March 10 when dozens of the fittest in the city will be asked to run up the 380 steps of the building.

The challenge offers a chance to either race against the clock individually, or as a group of five with prizes for those who finish first, second and third fastest.

With backing from Bristol Rugby Club the hospice is now calling on local people to see if they can beat the record of two minutes 50 seconds held by Castlemead's building manager Neil Munro-James.

Jo Gibbons, head of fundraising at the hospice, said: "It was disappointing we had to postpone the event, however the fact we've got a new date means more people will be able to take part."

“@Castlemood There is also a complete lack of decent cycling facilites. Poor effort from the building management.”

“It's possible that we have the fastest lifts in Bristol, but due to the fact that less than half of them work at any given moment, any advantage that we have is lost.”

    “@Richard34

"It's not the tallest building in Bristol, St Mary Redcliffe Church has this title at the steeple while Cossham Hospital in Hillfields remains Bristol's tallest point."

The first is definitely true, but is Hillfields in Bristol? I thought it was the steeple of Christ Church, Clifton...”

“Just hope 'Elf N Safety' don't turn up putting up warning signs like a Blackpool B&B Landlady 'one step at a time when going upstairs'!

I believe this building has the fastest lifts of any tower block in Bristol, although I was told that they were eventually governed as ladies were passing out due to the accelleration when they first came into service? Prior to that, the DRG Building (1 Redcliffe Street) had the fastest ones when it opened in 1963.”

“I was told by tour guides that the tallest point is the top of Christchurch in Clifton - which seemed plausible.”
