A decorated Royal Air Force pilot from Bristol flew into the Royal International Air Tattoo in Gloucestershire to help sell a cook book raising money for the Help For Heroes charity.

Flight Lieutenant Michelle Goodman, 32, landed a helicopter at RAF Fairford and quickly got down to work selling The Help For Heroes Cook Book, which includes her own recipe for lasagne.

She was the first woman to be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, which she won for her role in rescuing a badly-wounded soldier in Iraq in June 2007.

The Help For Heroes Cook Book was compiled by Jon Pullen, an RAF squadron leader from Weston-super-Mare, and contains more than 100 contributions from sporting heroes, war veterans, politicians, serving military personnel and celebrity chefs.

Flt Lt Goodman, of Winterbourne Down, said: "Over a year ago I was asked to contribute a recipe for the book, which aims to raise money for Help for Heroes, the charity that supports wounded ex-servicemen.

"When I saw the finished product I thought it was really good and, together with my partner Sgt Justin Churchill, we thought that this would sell well at airshows.

"We've bought copies in bulk in the hope of raising £10,000 for the charity, and have already raised £2,000."

Tim Prince, Director of the Air Tattoo, said: "We're delighted to welcome the first woman pilot to be awarded the DFC, and to support Flt Lt Goodman in raising money for this worthwhile cause."
