Even the Queen appears bored
JUST before the commencement of the rugby match between France and England I watched and listened to the French team sing their National Anthem, La Marseillaise. What a stirring tune this is, enough to fill any Frenchman and woman with pride in their country.
Then we were subject, at least I was, to what must surely be the most dullest of any national anthem I have heard – God Save Our Gracious Queen.
Why even the Queen looks bored when this is played at events she attends.
How anyone can say or even think this is appropriate for a nation such as ours is beyond me.

What about Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No 1, or as most of us know it Land of Hope and Glory.
Now that's enough to ensure such people as myself stand and sing with enthusiasm and pride.
The quicker we drop our present national anthem the better. Consign it to the waste bin where it should have gone years ago.
