Pylon opponents taking steps
CAMPAIGNERS fighting plans for a new 400,000 volt overhead power line through the North Somerset countryside are to show political leaders the impact the towering pylons could have on the landscape.
Campaigners living along the proposed route of the new 37-mile line, which will go from Avonmouth to Bridgwater, have organised a walk to the top of Crook Peak, on the Mendip Hill near Winscombe, to show how they claim the 152ft pylons could devastate the landscape.
The campaigners, including members of action groups and parish councils along the route of the new line, will be joined by North Somerset MP Dr Liam Fox, Wells MP Tessa Munt, councillors and representatives of National Grid, which is in charge of building the power line.
The walk takes place on June 24, from 11am.
