PUPILS at an Avonmouth school have raised more than £500 for a three-year-old with cerebral palsy.

The students at Avonmouth Church of England Primary School decided to raise money for Evie Tucker after they saw her appeal in the Evening Post.

As previously reported in the Evening Post, the three-year-old has cerebral palsy and can only walk short distances with the aid of a walking frame.

The Avonmouth youngster is hoping to have an operation at Frenchay Hospital to cut the nerves in her spinal cord, easing the spasticity in her legs.

But NHS Bristol would not fund the procedure so her family are raising £25,000 to cover the cost of the £23,000 operation and the physiotherapy she will need afterwards.

Members of the Avonmouth school's Rights Respecting Ambassadors decided to hold a non-uniform day and bring-and-buy sale to help with the fundraising because it fitted in with the values they represent.

One of the ambassadors, Garvir Khakh, 11, said: "Everybody should have the same rights so we thought we would have a non-uniform day and bring-and-buy sale to help."

Amber Pope, also 11, said: "We saw about Evie in the newspaper and thought it would be good to help so she can join in playing with her friends.

"It felt really good and we felt really helpful."

“I am really proud of all the children at Avonmouth Primary school, my daughter Izabel is an Ambassador at the school, and I know how much they all wanted to help. Well done!”
