Pupils at premiere of their own film
A GROUP of pupils at an Easton primary school have attended a very special premiere – the first screening of their own film.
The youngsters, aged nine, ten and 11, are all part of a group at Whitehall Primary learning English as a second language.
For the past nine months they have been working with Bristol-based production company Zed Productions to write a script for the film, which they have called Shakespeare's Mobile.
The project has also had support from the charity Integrate Bristol, which helps with the integration and adaptation of youngsters who have arrived from other countries, and funding from Quartet.
The story, devised by 11-year-old Shoaib Ali, involves a boy who is a big Shakespeare fan and gets bullied for it – but eventually meets the bard himself.
Along with the team of professionals they have been working with, they filmed and directed Shakespeare's Mobile in the Easter holidays on location in Stratford-upon-Avon and Bristol.
It starred students from City Academy, teachers and professional actors from the Royal Shakespeare Trust.
Last week they premiered the film at The Watershed and yesterday afternoon they showed friends, parents and governors of the school the results of their hardwork at a special showing of the film at their school.
Student Brian Beti, 11, said: "This is going to be the one and only best film ever made by primary school children on the planet."
Asma Ibrahim, 11 added: "I really enjoyed the whole thing because it was a great opportunity and I met new people."
Zed Productions' Oliver Zimmerman said: "The children have had a great time working on this project and were really excited about filming it and getting it onto the big screen.
"They have been full of ideas – it's really gripped their imaginations."
