School pupils will take part in a street clean-up in Hillfield today.

Youngsters from Bristol Metropolitan College have organised the clean-up in Thicket Avenue.

Eleven pupils and their learning mentors will be accompanying PCSO Laura Harris, of Avon and Somerset police, on the tidy-up. They will be wearing high-visibility jackets and armed with litter pickers. PCSO Harris said: "The youngsters are getting into the community spirit to show they respect and care for their area.

"The clean-up day came about after the students' mentors approached me at a beat surgery to say that the pupils wanted to get involved in doing something good for the community and they asked if I could help to facilitate it.

"They were concerned that young people in the area get a bad press, so they wanted to show that there are young people who want to build good relationships in the community."
