The City Academy Bristol has set up a "school bank" to help pupils gain experience of managing money.

The secondary in Lawrence Hill has launched the service with help from staff at NatWest in Redfield.

The bank will be run by Year 10 students who have successfully applied for the job and received cashier training.

All students at the academy will have the opportunity to open an account and will be able to pay in money at the school bank during published opening hours.

They will also receive regular statements, which NatWest staff will go through with them, to help them understand the process of running a bank account.

The project forms part of NatWest's MoneySense for Schools programme, which has been developed with teachers to help schools and colleges teach personal money management and enterprise skills within the curriculum.

Ben Tucker, of the City Academy, said: "The students are really excited about this venture. It's very important that they gain basic money management and enterprise skills."
