A new Pubwatch scheme is being launched in Shirehampton and Avonmouth to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The initiative has been organised by Avon and Somerset police, alongside landlords and local firms.

It means if someone is banned from a pub for being anti social or causing trouble, the ban will be effective in all pubs across the area.

The scheme works through an alert system. If a landlord throws someone out then he or she will alert the three nearest public houses to stop the troublemakers causing problems elsewhere.

PC Gareth Davies, who has worked with landlords to implement the scheme, said: "We want to send out the message that abusive or threatening behaviour towards staff, drug taking, fighting, under-age drinking or any other form of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in public houses in Shirehampton and Avonmouth."

In Shirehampton, pubs taking part in the scheme include The George and The Lifeboat in High Street; The Hope and Anchor in Lower High Street and the Lamplighters in Station Road.

In Avonmouth those taking part include The Miles Arms in Avonmouth Road; The Avonmouth Tavern in Portview Road and The Royal Hotel in Gloucester Road.
