The Bristol Post

HAVING read your two page spread regarding the proposed Hungry Horse (the Post September 6) I felt I had to put the other side of the story because the article contained so much scare mongering.

Firstly, I would take issue with John Austin who states that there is simply no need for this establishment.I disagree completely as there is not a restaurant for the Brislington people between the bottom of Sandy Park Road and Keynsham or Whitchurch. For too long people have had to drive in their cars to have meals out, but this development would allow residents to walk.

Secondly, Mike Devereux is clutching at straws about the traffic as there will be no more problems than when Great Mills and MFI were allowed to build large stores in the same vicinity and traffic lights stopped any problems. Does he think that everyone will be leaving the development at the same time? Get real Mr D the argument does not hold water.

I would also say that Greene King is a very successful company and certainly would not jeopardise its license through anti-social behaviour. Besides which the two named people are on the other side of the Bath Road and would not hear any noise. They would be better complaining about the juggernauts going down the Bath Road to Bristol Fruit Market at 2am.

I have lived in Montrose Park all my life – a street which has always been used as a short cut from the Pilgrim and King's Arms late at night to Wick Road and there has never been a problem. I hope the two Lib Dem councillors pictured will take a balanced view and consider the opinions of the people who are in favour of the project. I see our local MP Kerry McCarthy has put her spoke in and she does not even live in the area.

I understand that if you have any comments you can write to Jess Leigh at City Development, Brunel House, St Georges Rd, Bristol BS1 5UY
