A NAILSEA pub is to close for a fortnight next month while it undergoes a £160,000 makeover.

The Royal Oak in the High Street will shut its doors on February 5 and re-open again on February 17.

The pub is transforming into a John Barras pub, which prides itself on being a home from home where communities can gather to have fun through a range of experiences including quality food, drink, sport and entertainment.

Royal Oak manager Steve Hurley said: "The changes will allow us to enhance our offering and the guest experience while still retaining the community hub aspect that makes our pub so special."

The pub will be fitted with new HD TVs, new furniture and a new bar with updated guest toilets and the kitchen will be refurbished.

The makeover comes at the same time as pub chain Wetherspoons has spent hundreds of thousands on the former Glasshouse pub at Crown Glass Place.

The pub – which is to be renamed The Glassmaker – is due to open in March.

The Royal Oak is also recruiting for part-time positions on the bar and in the kitchen.
