Mangotsfield United manager Phil Bater is giving a trial to former Newport County striker Luke Prosser as he continues to try to beef up his strike force ahead of the new season.

Bater has already signed the experienced pair of Martin Paul and Tom Knighton to supplement his young front pairing of Mitchell Page and Daine O'Connor, who struggled to find the net last season.

"Goals win matches and change games and we didn't score enough of them last season," said Bater.

"I have been tracking Luke for a while now and when he wasn't offered a new deal at Newport I invited him to come and train with us.

"He is a strong, fit lad and we will see how he gets on in pre-season."

Bater revealed that fitness consultant Lee Southernwood, who has just agreed to work with Bristol Rovers, will come and take training this week.

"I have known Lee for a while and he really knows his stuff and offered to come and take a fitness session for the lads, probably next Thursday," added Bater. "I'm sure they will enjoy it."

Another recruit to the team is experienced midfielder Lee Collier, who turned down approaches from Weymouth and Yate Town to become Bater's sixth signing of the summer.

"Lee has a lot of experience and will replace Ellis Wilmott," explained Bater. "He has a lot of experience playing in the Southern League and Conference South and will be a good addition."

Collier began his career at Torquay United before making the switch as a youth team player to Yeovil Town.

He subsequently had spells at Bath City, Larkhall Athletic, Chippenham Town, Merthyr Tydfil and Paulton Rovers before signing for Newport County. Last season he was back at Larkhall.
