Promotion is the priority for Almondsbury Town chief Thompson
FA VASE: Richard Thompson admits he will not allow the potential for an exciting FA Vase run cloud his desire to deliver promotion to Hellenic League high-fliers Almondsbury Town.
Thompson experienced three Vase semi-finals while a player with Mangotsfield United and Taunton Town, plus five quarter-final appearances.
He also performed at Wembley with Torquay United in a 4-1 Sherpa Van defeat by Bolton 20 years ago.
Thompson, mindful a tricky second round hurdle presents itself in the shape of fifth-placed Wessex Premier Division side Christchurch in Dorset tomorrow, stressed: "While it would be great for the club to keep the run going in the Vase, the bigger picture is the league and winning promotion, and that is always my main focus."
Almonds are without the cup-tied Dave Anyinsah and Jason Wood but fellow attacker Ali Gibb returns.
Brislington have signed Yate Town's former attacking midfielder Jack Dempsey in time for a possible debut at home to Wessex League champions Poole Town. The visitors are expected to take 100-plus supporters to Ironmould Lane, but are without star striker Charlie Austin, a £50,000 summer signing by Swindon Town.
Of Dempsey, Bris boss Jeff Meacham, who recalls fit-again Justin Bishop to his attack, said: "Jack is confident and comfortable on the ball and I have high hopes for him."
Longwell Green Sports player-coach Mark Summers is calling on big and enthusiastic support to roar them to victory at home to Toolstation League rivals Willand Rovers.
Sports stretched their unbeaten league and cup run to 10 games with a point from Saturday's 5-5 thriller against Dawlish and Summers, who sees midfielders Andy Summers, Neil Rosslee and Dan Tanner all involved again, said: "There's a real buzz about the club and it would be great to see more people turning up in their numbers to experience it.
"Our defending was unusually magnanimous against Dawlish yet it's not every week we score five goals, so anything could happen tomorrow!"
Michael Meaker is set for a return to the Bitton attack as they go to SW Peninsula League outfit Plymouth Parkway, who are managed by former Truro City boss Dave Leonard, determined to repeat their last-16 feat in the competition last term.
Matt Knapman and Danny Hallett are also available again but James Clarke is cup-tied, Jack Welling is suspended and Ben Pope is unavailable for the visitors.
Welton Rovers face a tough away day against big-spending Toolstation rivals Bideford, but at least they have left winger Steven Bridges, and fit-again centre-halves Timmy Thompson and Nick Beaverstock back to bolster them.
Injury-hit Bristol Manor Farm enjoy home advantage against Cornish-based Peninsula top-flight side Saltash United, with Kyle Thomas and Jordan Hazell poised for returns.
