Hanham must set their sights on a winning end to the summer if they are to clinch their pre-season aim of promotion back to the Senior Division.

Although Saturday's match with Old Down was cancelled, the club have climbed up to second after four straight wins.

Hanham trail leaders Phoenix West Iandians by 0.16 average points and travel to the top side tomorrow.

They also face third-placed Long Ashton and fourth-placed Bristol Pakistanis in the final two matches of the summer.

Vice-captain Duncan Boffin said: "Promotion has been the aim since we were relegated last summer.

"We finished third from bottom but went down because more teams than normal came down from Bristol & North Somerset Division.

"We were third from bottom but we were still gutted to be relegated. But we are trying for promotion at the first time of asking.

"If we can win the title then all well and good but promotion is more important.

"We have Phoenix West Indians this week and the last two matches are against Long Ashton and Bristol Pakistanis.

"It's in our hands. If we can win those matches then we would be sitting pretty. We would cement our position near the top."

Hanham have been boosted by several players hitting top form this season.

Opening bowler Mark Stone has claimed a minimum of three wickets per match in the last four matches, including 5-59 in the four-wicket win against Bristol YMCA.

With the bat, Hanham have three players who have scored more than 300 runs this summer. Richard Edwards (409), Boffin (344) and Craig Davies (327) lead the way.

"It's gone well this summer," added Boffin. "We started off well, winning four matches on the trot, had a mid-season blip but bounced back and have won the last four.

"This year – and the batting in-particular – we have shared the workload. There are three of us who have got more than 300 runs this summer.

"We have had a settled batting line-up and that is encouraging. Last season we didn't score enough runs. That's why we were down near the bottom of the table.

"Craig has come good in the last few matches. (His latest scores include 79 not out and 84). He is back this weekend from a holiday. It will be good to have him in the team.

"The First Division sides' bowling line-ups are not as strong as the ones we faced in the Senior Division.

"I got 400 runs last year and have continued that form. Craig is always in the runs and Richard Edwards, who had a bad summer last year, has been scoring runs for fun this year."
