Promise is 100 years out of date
WITH reference to R Skillicam's letter (The Post, June 11) banknotes at least carry the wording "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of 'x' pounds".
This promise is, I understand, almost 100 years out of date. So the fact that the Queen's portrait appears on our bank notes is neither here nor there.
In this respect times have changed somewhat since Christ's day (St Luke's Gospel ch 20 vs 20-25). Touché. Vive la Republique.
