Prolific Schofield says he can get even better
Danny Schofield is Yeovil Town's top scorer this season but he believes he can soon start to produce even better performances. The free transfer signing from Huddersfield has been virtually ever present – barring injury – for the Glovers.
But his personal life has only just got settled after his house move and the birth of his son.
"It was hard at first to move four and a half hours away from where we originally lived," explained Schofield.
"We had a baby three and a half months ago while we were moving house so we did everything at once.
"It has been hard for me and my family but I think we are finding our feet and hopefully I can improve on my performances and play even better and help the team move up the league."
Interrupted sleep is part and parcel of being a new parent.
"I do wake up when the baby cries but I don't get up – I leave that to the missus," he admitted.
"I do my little bit – I am not going to say my fair share!
"But it is a great thing being a father – the best thing ever."
Schofield remains as eager as ever to show his skills.
Even a day of foul weather in south Somerset could not keep a good man down as he prepared for today's League One game at home to Peterborough United.
"You see the weather and you go out and run about and you don't think about it when you get warmed up," he said.
"I still love it as much as I did when I was 18.
"The last few results – apart from the Leicester away defeat – have been decent and we have moved up the league.
"We just need to look forward now and kick on with the home games."
Yeovil remain just two points clear of the League One drop zone but Schofield prefers not to think about a relegation battle.
"I don't feel like we are in a relegation fight," he insisted.
"We have played some good football in patches and it is early days yet so I don't think we are in a dog-fight.
"We definitely need to find consistency to progress in the league.
"At the start of the season we had a few injuries and we were struggling to find players for the bench but competition always helps the team because we have to work even harder."
Effort is not something you could accuse this Yeovil side of lacking.
"They are a brilliant bunch," added Schofield.
"It takes time to get to know everyone but we are close-knit now.
"It is essential to have a sense of cohesion through the team."
One guaranteed change in the squad from the 1-0 defeat at Leicester will be the omission of striker Scott Rendell from the substitutes' bench.
Rendell is still officially on loan at Yeovil until midnight tonight, meaning he in not able to play for either side today.
The 21-year-old has returned to London Road although Posh boss Darren Ferguson admits to picking Rendell's brain about the Glovers' tactics in the build-up to the clash.
Meanwhile, midfielder Marc Bircham was back on the training ground this week – for the first time since early September.
He has had an injection in his long-term ankle problem.
"I would imagine he is at least two or three weeks away," said assistant manager Steve Thompson.
