May's motocross series win hopes fading
John May's hopes of winning a third consecutive South West Premier motocross series are fading rapidly.
The Bristol ace is in a Belgian clinic for knee ligament surgery and will miss the fourth round of the series in Devon tomorrow.
Owing to bad weather in the South Brent area, the Wrangton track has not been prepared and the meeting has been switched to the all-weather Little Silver Circuit near Exeter. Tiverton's Luke Hill goes to the 15-race meeting with a 17-point lead over Wiltshire's Jamie Skuse.
Just two points separate Luke Mellows and Ross Keyworth in third and fourth places and there are only three points between Wayne Shimmel and Darren Shears in fifth and sixth positions.

Belgian Maarten Cremers and Bristol's Joe Dark are due to be back in action, along with Luke Hawkins and former national championship contender Alex Rach, so there could be a big shake-up in the standings.
The Taunton club's Jubilee long distance trial has proved popular. The entry list was full the day after the regulations were published and 165 competitors will be converging on the Raleigh's Cross Inn at Brendon on Exmoor for the annual event. There is a big contingent from the Wessex Centre's Mendip Vale club, including Andy Lloyd, Rob Treble, Tom Pike, Andy Scrivens and Andrea Cottle, who scooped the ladies award last year.
Others expected to shine in a 60-mile route that contains 23 observed sections and two special tests are Wessex Centre chairman Keith Wooster and his brother Gary, Ray Samways, John Luckett and Gary Marshman.
