Praise for the captain and crew
AS a new vice-president of the Matthew Trust, I feel I must write to pay tribute to the captain of the Matthew, Rob Salvidge and all crew and volunteers who supported the expedition to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee on the Thames.
They set off in March and returned last Saturday. This was an epic voyage beset with atrocious weather conditions.

I am so impressed with their commitment to the Matthew and its special place in Bristol's maritime heritage.
A special tribute should be paid to the volunteer chef of the Matthew at the pageant, Ann, who maintained a constant supply of high class food during a very wet and windy day. She was supported by a dedicated team Jon, Cath and Tom.

Many of the volunteers have been involved with the Matthew project for many years. These are some of Bristol's unsung heroes. This project would benefit greatly from more support from volunteers or financial gifts. Anyone who is interested should contact the President Alderman Royston Griffey.
