PRINCE Charles may have been in town a day earlier but the heir to the throne didn't have the teenage girls swooning in quite the same way as Harry, Tom, Danny and Dougie – the boys from McFly.

The pop princes were at the HMV music store in Broadmead yesterday to sign copies of their new single, Party Girl – and their loyal subjects came out in their hundreds to show their allegiance.

The 400-strong queue snaked all the way back to Penn Street, and when the four band members made their appearance the excited chatterings of their young fans turned to whoops and screams of adoration, camera shutters clicking as they frenziedly snapped away.

At the front of the queue were cousins Georgina Havvock, 22, and Taylor Morgan, 15, both of Knowle.

As she waited to meet her heroes, Taylor said: "I am boiling hot, shaking, and can't move. It is a bit surreal.

"I love them more than anything. They are my favourite band, and I have got every album and DVD of theirs – it's like I've got OCD."

Georgina said: "I am not a lifelong fan but I am pretty close. We've come into a bit of luck with this today."

Afterwards she said breathlessly: "I am just shaking. We've got all their names on the record, and Danny is even better in real life."

Further along the queue were friends Mandy Ashurst, 17, from Bedminster Down, Danielle Harding, 17, from Knowle, and Alice Pike, 21, from Westbury in Wiltshire.

Mandy and Danielle had done some "creative planning" with their college timetables so they could meet McFly, picking wristbands up early in the morning and coming back at 3pm to queue.

Danielle said she loved McFly because "they are cute and are really nice people", while Mandy, a fan since she was little, was angling for a hug from Dougie.

Quietly waiting among the hundreds of teenage girls were Charlie Tudor, 18, and Grant Lock, 19, both from Weston-super-Mare.

Grant said: "I've been a big fan of theirs since they came out, and we just wanted to see them."

But it wasn't just teenage pop fans who had made the journey to meet McFly.

Among the vest tops, leggings and school uniforms was the beige suit jacket of Keith Ronald.

The 51-year-old had come from Gloucester to get something signed – albeit with his 19-year-old daughter, Rebekah – but still described himself as a bona fide McFly fan.

Mr Ronald said: "I have never seen them, but I have dropped Rebekah off at concerts."

Rebekah looked a little bashful at going to meet McFly with her dad – until he said she could have tickets for their latest tour as a Christmas present.

She said: "I have been a McFly fan since they first started. Danny is my favourite. He is just the best, and a great singer."

McFly will play at the Colston Hall on October 21. Tickets go on sale on Saturday.
