A policeman was injured when he was struck by a van being used as a getaway car by burglars in Bristol.

The 27-year-old officer was trying to stop two men leaving the scene of a burglary in Chaplin Road, Easton, when he was hit by their Ford Fiesta Courier in Walton Street at 2.30pm yesterday.

The officer was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary for treatment to leg injuries and was later released. Part of Stapleton Road was sealed off for a short time after the incident.

Following the collision, the van travelled in the direction of Stapleton Road and then went in the wrong direction along Kensington Park.

Police say a mixed-race man in his 20s was driving the van. He was described as of thin build, clean-shaven with cropped black hair and wearing a blue vest.

His white male passenger was in his late 30s or early 40s, and was of thin build. He had short black hair, black stubble, a grey T-shirt with a logo on it and light blue jeans.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle or have other information to help police inquiries.

Anyone who has information is asked to contact Bristol police at Trinity Road.
