Police in Clevedon are warning owners of Volkswagen Golfs in the town to be on their guard following a spate of thefts from vehicles during the past week.

Nine Golfs have been broken into, and items including satellite navigation systems have been stolen and glove boxes searched.

Inspector Jon Owen of Avon and Somerset Police said: "VW Golf owners are asked to take extra security measures to protect their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity, particularly overnight."

Police are also warning motorists to lock their vehicles at night after thieves snatched items from two parked cars in Clevedon. Thieves got into a BMW parked at Coleridge Vale Road North and stole a sat-nav system and mobile phone accessories. Raiders got into a second car at Cannons Gate and stole CDs, a mobile phone hands-free kit and a computer console. Anyone with information should contact Clevedon police on 0845 456 7000.
