POLICE have seized more than 50 suspected cannabis plants, with a potential street value of up to £50,000 in a raid on a house in Yate.

South Gloucestershire officers, supported by specialist firearms officers, searched number 60 Bredon yesterday morning.

They recovered plants, specialist growing equipment and a BB gun. A 31-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody.

The raid came just a day after the neighbourhood team found suspected cannabis plants at a house in Coalpit Heath.

On Wednesday officers recovered two full-grown plants and 20 seedlings, with a potential street value up to £22,000 as well as hydroponic equipment.

A 15-year-old boy and a 36-year-old woman were arrested and have been released on police bail pending forensic tests.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Adrian Fallows said: "Information from local people is the key to the success of our Operation Relentless, keeping our streets safe from drugs."

Anyone who suspects drugs are being kept or grown at a property is urged to call the neighbourhood team at Chipping Sodbury police station on 0845 456 7000 or email ssnchippingsodbury@avonandsomerset.police.uk.

Alternatively calls can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

“Fred, your figures are fairly correct but they did mention the first guy had 50 plants which is where they pulled their age old statistical £1000 per plant from to come up with the ludicrous sum of £50k.

But the other one, quite obviously completely personal and saying its worth £22k to get the public on side. What a load of tosh!”

“More ridiculous drivel from the police and BEP! The headline says they siezed 50,000 quids worth, but the article says only 2 large plants and 20 seedlings. I have, growing legally, 6 mature budding marijuana plants and a few seedlings, all growing hydroponically. So I know about growing weed. Two decent plants, with great bud, will produce about 7 ounces, worth about 1400 quid. If broken down in to small amounts maybe triple that. As for the seedlings, about half will be useless males and probably half the remainder will fail for some reason or another. Growing indoors one does't want to waste space and light on anything but the healthiest plants. That makes the maximum value of about 7,000 not 50,000 quid, with the grower getting less than a third of that. So endeth the lesson.”

    “Leave the cannabis dealers alone.

it doesn't hurt anyone, ok the reports say it could/may lead to mental health - could/may - they have no proof.

the police should really concentrate on the rise in cocaine use in Bristol!”
