The van was later found by police abandoned just off the A38 in Rudgeway. The dog was found to have been stolen from an address in Thornbury.
Officers believe the van had been stolen from London and it contained tools stolen from Thornbury earlier the same day. Two men aged 26 and 32 were arrested later the same day in connection with the thefts and remain in police custody.
