Police are still hunting an attacker who stabbed two men at a house in Weston-super-Mare on Thursday after a drug deal is thought to have gone wrong.

The victims received serious injuries thought to be potentially life threatening after they were stabbed at a property in Alma Street.

Both men remained in hospital yesterday.

One man, thought to be from London sustained a fractured skull and the other man is believed to have suffered a punctured liver.

Police spokesman Steve Game said: "We are still looking for the assailant and the victims are recovering in hospital. We are also still looking for potential witnesses who have not yet come forward."

Residents in Alma street said police remained at the scene and the property where the stabbing took place is a known drugs haven.

Resident Brian Austen said: "It is one of those known nuisance properties and has been active for a long time.

"It has been raided by police four times in the past two years with no obvious result and the latest raid was only last week."

Following the stabbings, Superintendent Chris Weigold said: "I would like to reassure people that this sort of incident is thankfully rare within Weston as levels of violence continue to fall across North Somerset through working with our partners.

"Weston is a great place to live, work or visit and our aim is to make it safer."

He said the hunt for the attacker would go on.
