Police have made plans to deal with a series of public protests in Bristol running from Saturday into next week.

The Co-Mutiny movement will unite people against "corporate greed, social injustice and environmental degradation" which, they fear, are leading the human race into "climate chaos and financial collapse".

A number of protests, actions and events are planned in the city as the group aims to get their message heard.

Avon and Somerset says it will not break up peaceful protests but will crack down on any violence, criminal activity or major public disruption caused.

While Bristol Co-Mutiny has published the details of some of the planned events, the times, locations and nature of others have not been made public.

In an attempt to make sure events run as smoothly as possible, the force has sent two open letters to organisers encouraging a dialogue, but have received no response.

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Marsh said: "Our aim is to facilitate peaceful protest and manage any subsequent disruption in a proportionate way. But we will make no exception for any individuals or groups who become involved in disorder or violence. The week ahead may be challenging, as we seek to balance the rights of the Co-Mutiny protesters to peacefully protest with the rights of the general public.

"We would like to reassure local residents and businesses that we aim to keep disruption to a minimum throughout."

The programme starts with the Bristol Anarchist Bookfair on Saturday, at The Island, Bridewell Street.

Other events include radical knitting, song-writing and the Bristol Anarchist Games, which will include musical chairs and sardines.

Protests will also focus on anti-militarism, human and animal rights, and next Friday there will be an event when people will "tour the financial district" of the city.

It is unclear how many people will be involved in the protests.
