Police pluck man from Bristol harbour after 2am fall
A young man was rescued from Bristol's Floating Harbour after his shouts for help woke a nearby resident.
The 24-year-old was pulled from the water just after 2am yesterday near a houseboat moored next to the Welsh Back health club.
Resident Andy Wright heard the man struggling in the water from his flat on the other side of the river, and phoned the police.
Officers hauled the man on to the boat and were helped by some of his friends, who arrived later.
He was then treated by paramedics at the scene.
Mr Wright said: "At 2am I was woken up by someone yelling.
"I thought it was just a drunk at first on the bank opposite by the Welsh Back gym and the ACAS building.
"It continued and there was what sounded like some pretty hefty banging on the side of a boat.
"I looked out the window and couldn't see anything, but I could hear someone shouting, so I phoned 999. The police kept me on the phone while I guided them to where I could hear the shouting.
"They phoned me back three-quarters of an hour later and said they had pulled a man out of the river and that he had been treated in an ambulance but he was OK.
"He had fallen in and was unable to get out."
