Avon and Somerset police have a new Assistant Chief Constable.

Anthony Bangham, right, was appointed to the senior post by the police authority following a successful career with West Mercia Police.

He will join ACCs John Long, Rod Hansen and Andy Marsh, following the departure of Jackie Roberts to Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales earlier this year.

The 40-year-old entered the police service in 1991.

His roles in West Mercia included Chief Superintendent of force operations and professional standards.

He is married with two young daughters.

“Congratulations Mr Bangham on your appointment.

Would it be too much to ask that you have a higher public profile when it comes to being seen by your staff and officers than the present full time director of SouthWest One and part time Chief Constable Colin Port.

A Chief Constable whom many staff have only seen in photographs and on the television !”
